...From the Publisher,

This is a full issue. The summer season is over. For some it is a time to store the clubs and wait for next year. Who are we kidding? We live in Texas, we play golf all year. And if we have to, we will make our way to a place where we can play.

Just last week, the temperature here in Austin was well over 100 degrees. I visited El Paso to play the new Tom Fazio designed Butterfield Trail Golf Club where the thermometer was three digits as well, but it was a dry heat. The most amazing thing about Butterfield Trail was the design. Having played many desert golf tracks where target and placement golf was the rule, this course was noticeably different. It was forgiving.

It was as if Fazio knew where I was going to miss and he placed the fairway there so I could have a shot. I don’t want to give it all away. Just read about it in this issue. To finish the point of how cool it is to live in Texas, while it was over 100 (dry heat) in El Paso, just an hour away in Ruidoso it was a cool 78. Played there and loved it. We’ll tell you about that in an upcoming issue.

The highlight of this issue was meeting Hal Sutton. He is such a wonderful man. The more time you spend with him, the more you enjoy him. You can feel his experience and expertise. On the day of the photo shoot, he was a complete gentleman. He made us feel at home at his place, Boot Ranch. Just outside Fredericksburg, the course is masterful and has Hal’s fingerprints all over it. It’s private, but if you can swing it, call them and get it done.

Jim Apfelbaum makes his way to the High Sierras of Reno and Lake Tahoe for fantastic golf. And we have information on how to bring your humidor back to life, so you can store those cigars at home.

There’s so much in this issue to brag about, so just turn the page and enjoy. I have to get back to the grind of golf, travel and leisure.
